Katiyar crowned champ in Triple-C All-India Tourney

Prashant Katiyar of Uttar Pradesh emerged champion in the 3rd Triple-C All-India Fide Rating Chess Tournament (Below 1800), which concluded at Hotel Rumani in Puri today. He scored 8.5 points out of a possible nine to take home the first prize of Rs one lakh.

J Charles of Tamil Nadu and Aryan of Delhi finished second and third with eight and 7.5 points respectively. Charles received Rs 60,000, while Aryan pocketed Rs 40,000. A total of 287 players participated in the four-day tournament, which was organised by Triple C Chess Club.

Puri Municipality chairman Nilu Sarangi handed over the prizes in the presence of District Chess Association of Puri secretary Subash Chandra Sahoo, vice-president Padyumnn Mishra, All Odisha Chess Association assistant secretary Manoj Kumar Panigrahi, Triple C Chess Club president Kamal Kantha Bisoi and secretary B N Sahoo.
